Norton, Kansas

I landed for the evening at Prairie Dog State Park in Norton, Kansas.
Humidity is only 38%!  I'll admit, it was the name that drew me here.  There's a Prairie Dog community numbering over 300.  Apparently they were imported here. I may try to find them on the map on my way out in the morning. It's too much work to unhitch, put the stabilizers down, and the hitch and wheel locks on so I can drive around. And it's 94 degrees.  The dogs and I sat outside and I called my dad while the trailer cooled down.  When it was cool enough, I put the dogs inside and went for a walk. This is a beautiful park.  Because it's a State Park there's lots of room between campers. I'm the only one in my loop.

I took some photos with my Nikon, but I have no wifi here to transfer they the pictures so I will add some tomorrow when I have wifi at my next stop.

My impression of Kansas was flat, wheat, and sunflowers.  I've never been to Kansas so today I added a new state! Kansas was Hilly!  Crossing over into Kansas meant losing my 4-lane divided highway.  It's still a nice drive, but it was 2-lane for most of the day.  Today, about every 45 minutes I went through small towns. That's what's so much nicer than being on the interstate. Sure, the interstate gets you somewhere faster but the drive is just boring.  You don't get a flavor for the people of the state or get to see more interesting sites than just the road and overpasses.  I saw several Sinclair gas stations with the big green dinosaur out front. I haven't seen those for a while.  There were long stretches of highway with no one in front of me and no one behind me. Maybe because it's a Monday... And it's Kansas.   It's very hilly with corn and cows. I passed the Cow and Calf Capital of Kansas. And yes, I had to say that aloud several times... as you are now. Ha!  I also passed the geographic center of the USA.  The highway is the Pony Express highway so there were occasional metal or wood horse and rider shapes in cornfields and pictures on water towers.

I also went through the black squirrel city ( black-squirrels ).  where there must have been a contest for painting huge squirrels. Like these:
The dogs are being great little co pilots.
